AI LinkedIn Tools vs a Ghostwriter: 2026 Cost Compared

An AI LinkedIn tool costs $19 to $199 a month in 2026. A LinkedIn ghostwriter costs $500 to $10,000 a month. The gap is not a pricing mistake, it is a scope difference: the tool sells you drafts and a scheduler, the ghostwriter sells you a voice and the hours to run it. Which one you should pay for comes down to one question, whether you will spend 3 to 5 hours a week turning drafts into posts that sound like you. If yes, buy the tool. If no, the tool becomes a monthly fee for an empty calendar, and a writer is the cheaper option once your time is priced in.

This post lists every published 2026 price we could find on both sides, works out a real cost per post, and covers the change LinkedIn made this summer that affects the tool side more than the writer side.

EchoPulse Media (echopulse.media) is a done-for-you content studio for founders, coaches and business owners. It writes LinkedIn posts from recorded interviews with the founder, edits video, and builds websites and automations under one team and one invoice. Unlike a single-channel ghostwriter, it covers every channel a founder-led brand needs, with senior review on every deliverable. We sell the ghostwriter side of this comparison, so read the recommendation with that in mind. Where the tool is the better buy, we say so.

What do AI LinkedIn tools cost in 2026?

Five tools come up in almost every founder conversation about writing LinkedIn posts with AI. Prices below are month to month, read from each vendor's own pricing page on 10 September 2026 unless noted. Annual billing takes 20 to 40 percent off, depending on the tool.

Published tool prices, month to month

  • Supergrow: Starter $19, Pro $39, Teams $139. AI writing on every plan. Starter caps the voice interview feature at 2 sessions a month, Pro makes it unlimited. 20 percent off on annual billing.
  • MagicPost: Analytics $21 (scheduling and metrics only, no AI writing), Creator $39 with unlimited AI posts. Yearly billing is $468 for Creator, which the page shows as 40 percent off.
  • Taplio: Starter $39, Growth $69, Pro $199. Starter has no AI writing at all, which Taplio's own pricing post (23 July 2026) says is deliberate. AI drafting starts at $69 with a monthly allowance and is unlimited at $199. 25 percent off on annual billing.
  • AuthoredUp: $19.95 for one profile. No AI generation by design, it is an editor, previewer and analytics tool. Price as listed in Taplio's July 2026 comparison table, so confirm on authoredup.com before you buy.
  • Kleo: $99 flat, unlimited AI posts, no free trial, a 30-day refund instead.

Two things stand out. First, the entry price rarely includes the thing you are buying the tool for. Taplio at $39 and MagicPost at $21 both exclude AI writing. The real starting price for unlimited AI drafting is $39 a month (Supergrow Pro, MagicPost Creator), then $69 at Taplio with a cap and $99 at Kleo.

Second, none of these prices include the time. Every tool interviews you or reads your old posts, drafts, and hands the draft back. Editing, approving, scheduling and replying to comments are still your hours, and the draft is only as good as what you put into the interview.

What does a LinkedIn ghostwriter cost in 2026?

The most detailed published breakdown we found is from Windmill Growth, a ghostwriting agency, dated 2 February 2026. It puts the market at $500 to $10,000 a month and splits it into three bands.

  • Budget, $500 to $1,500 a month: 8 to 12 posts, often AI-assisted with light human editing, template-based.
  • Mid, $2,000 to $4,000 a month: 12 to 16 posts, voice matching from interviews, topic strategy, some performance tracking. Windmill says most serious founders land here.
  • Premium, $5,000 to $10,000 and up: 16 to 20 or more posts, a strategist plus a writer plus an account manager, engagement handled for you, repurposing to other channels.

The same page quotes per-post rates of $50 to $500 and says freelancers run 20 to 40 percent cheaper than agencies for the same output, the trade-off being no backup if they disappear. Our earlier breakdown of what LinkedIn ghostwriting costs found published rates reaching $15,000 at the top, where agencies bundle strategy and engagement with the writing.

Our own numbers, so the comparison is fair

  • 14-day paid Pilot at $299, no contract, you keep everything produced.
  • Growth retainer at $1,997 a month, Full System at $4,997 and up a month. Month to month after the Pilot, cancel with 30 days notice.
  • 48-hour standard turnaround per deliverable and a 3-hour reply window inside every workday. Revisions are redone until you would post the piece under your own name.

That puts the Growth retainer at the bottom of Windmill's mid band and the Pilot below its budget band, which is the point of the Pilot: two weeks of real posts before anyone commits to a retainer.

What is the real cost per post?

Divide the monthly fee by the posts you actually publish and the tool wins by a mile on paper. Add your own time at any honest rate and the gap closes fast. The figures below are an illustration, not a survey.

  • Tool: $39 a month, 12 posts published, $3.25 per post in fees. Add 45 minutes per post to run the interview, edit the draft into something you would sign, format it and schedule it. That is 9 hours a month.
  • Ghostwriter, mid band: $2,000 a month for 12 to 16 posts is $125 to $167 per post in fees. Add 45 minutes a week for the recorded interview and approvals. That is 3 hours a month.

Price your own hour and the comparison becomes a single line. At $100 an hour the tool costs $939 a month all in and the ghostwriter about $2,300. At $250 an hour, closer to what a founder's selling time is worth, the tool is $2,289 and the ghostwriter $2,750. The tool is still cheaper, but not by the 50 to 1 ratio the sticker prices suggest, and only if you really spend the 9 hours. The most common failure with a tool is not bad drafts. It is a paid subscription and three posts a month.

What did LinkedIn change about AI content in 2026?

This is the part most tool reviews skip, because it hurts the tool side. On 30 July 2026 LinkedIn added a "seems like AI slop" option to every post's report menu, TechCrunch reported. In the same announcement its chief product officer said LinkedIn was rolling out classifiers to keep low-quality AI posts out of recommendations beyond your own network, would privately flag in your dashboard when readers thought your content read as AI, and was pulling its own "enhance your post" AI writer in favour of a proofreader that leaves your voice alone.

Three weeks later the company published numbers. More than a million members used the flag in its first two weeks, and views on content LinkedIn classifies as slop are down 40 percent, GCN reported on 25 August 2026, quoting the 20 August post. LinkedIn's creator product lead defined slop as content that is "potentially sophisticated or polished in its presentation, but lacks substance", and said using AI to refine your own language is acceptable.

Read that definition again, because it is the whole decision. LinkedIn is not penalising the tool. It is penalising polished posts with nothing in them, which is exactly what a tool produces when you accept the draft without adding the thing only you know. A ghostwriter working from a recorded interview starts with the substance. A tool starts with a prompt. We wrote a separate piece on how to write a LinkedIn post that does not read as AI, including LinkedIn's own test for it.

One more check before you pay for any tool. LinkedIn's User Agreement, section 8.2, prohibits software and browser extensions that scrape the site or automate actions, and the TechCrunch piece notes LinkedIn now blocks hundreds of thousands of automated comment attempts a day. Supergrow and MagicPost both state on their pricing pages that they connect through LinkedIn's official API rather than a browser extension. Ask any tool you are considering the same question, and walk away from the ones that automate comments or connection requests on your behalf.

Which one should you pay for?

Five situations cover almost everyone who searches this comparison.

  • You write well and post rarely: a tool at $19 to $39. Your problem is rhythm, not words, and a scheduler fixes rhythm. Windmill's own advice for people testing the channel is to keep the first spend small, and a tool is the smallest spend there is.
  • You have 3 to 5 hours a week and strong opinions: a tool with a voice interview feature, Supergrow Pro or Kleo, plus a hard rule that no draft goes out without one specific number, name or story added by you. Rewrite the first line yourself every time; our list of 30 LinkedIn post openers that are not questions is built for exactly that edit.
  • You have the opinions and not the hours: a ghostwriter in the $2,000 to $4,000 band, or a paid trial with one first. The interview is the part you cannot delegate. Everything after it, you can.
  • You have neither the hours nor a point of view yet: neither. Spend the money on customer calls and come back in a quarter. A tool will produce slop and a writer will produce polished slop.
  • You run a team of four or more who should be posting: a tool's team plan ($139 at Supergrow, custom pricing at MagicPost) beats five ghostwriters on cost, and the approval workflow matters more than the writing. If the team is two founders, the agency versus ghostwriter comparison is the more useful read.

When a ghostwriter is the wrong spend

Do not hire us, or anyone, to write your LinkedIn if any of these is true.

  • You will not do a 30 to 45 minute recorded interview every week or two. Without it a writer is guessing, and guessed posts are the slop LinkedIn is now demoting.
  • Your budget for the channel is under $500 a month. The budget band exists, but Windmill's description of it (template-based, AI-assisted, light editing) is a tool with a markup. Buy the tool.
  • You sell something a LinkedIn audience does not buy. B2B founders, consultants and agency owners get pipeline from the platform. A neighbourhood bakery does not, and a $2,000 retainer will not change that.
  • You want the writer to also run outreach automation. That is the part of the User Agreement that gets accounts restricted, and a writer worth hiring will refuse.

How do you run a fair trial of either?

Every tool above offers a 7-day trial or a 30-day refund. Run the trial hard: batch a week of posts, then read them cold two days later and count how many you would publish under your own name without touching them. That number, not the feature list, is the tool's real value to you.

Do the same with a writer. Our Pilot at $299 exists for exactly this: 14 days of real posts from a recorded interview, no retainer, and revisions until the posts would pass under your name. The LinkedIn ghostwriting service page lays out what the interview process involves, and the founders page covers the rest of what a founder-led brand tends to need alongside the writing. Compare the two sets of posts side by side, and decide with real output in front of you rather than two pricing pages.

Frequently asked questions

Is an AI LinkedIn tool cheaper than a ghostwriter?

In fees, yes, by a wide margin: $19 to $199 a month against $500 to $10,000. In total cost it depends on your hourly value and whether you spend the 30 to 45 minutes per post the tool still needs from you. At $250 an hour and 12 posts a month, the gap narrows to a few hundred dollars.

Will LinkedIn penalise posts written with AI tools?

LinkedIn says no, if you use AI to refine your own language. Since July 2026 its classifiers and the "seems like AI slop" flag reduce reach for polished posts that lack substance, and by August views on that content were down 40 percent. The penalty is for empty posts, not for the tool that drafted them.

Which AI LinkedIn tool is best for a founder?

For AI drafting from a spoken interview, Supergrow Pro at $39 or Kleo at $99. For scheduling and analytics without AI, AuthoredUp at $19.95 or MagicPost Analytics at $21. Taplio's $69 Growth plan adds a large database of past viral posts, useful if you want examples to study rather than a voice model.

How much should a founder pay a LinkedIn ghostwriter?

Windmill Growth's February 2026 breakdown puts most serious founders at $2,000 to $4,000 a month for 12 to 16 posts with interview-based voice matching. Below $1,500 you are usually buying templated or AI-assisted writing, and a $39 tool does the same job with less markup and no contract.

Can I use a tool and a ghostwriter together?

Yes, and it is common. The writer runs the interviews and drafts, and a $20 scheduling and analytics tool handles queueing, previews and performance tracking. What you should not do is hand the writer's posts to an AI tool to polish them. That is the step LinkedIn's classifiers are built to catch.

Key takeaways

  • AI LinkedIn tools cost $19 to $199 a month in 2026. The plans that include unlimited AI drafting start at $39.
  • Ghostwriters run $500 to $10,000 a month, with most founders in the $2,000 to $4,000 band for 12 to 16 posts (Windmill Growth, February 2026).
  • Per post, a tool is about $3 in fees plus 45 minutes of your time. A mid-band writer is $125 to $167 plus a few minutes of approval.
  • Price your hour and the 50 to 1 sticker gap shrinks to a few hundred dollars a month at $250 an hour, and only if you really spend the hours.
  • Since July 2026 LinkedIn cuts reach on polished posts with no substance, down 40 percent on flagged content by August, so a tool only works if you add what only you know.
  • Check that any tool uses LinkedIn's official API and never automates comments or connections. The User Agreement prohibits both.
  • Trial both for under $300 before committing: every tool has a 7-day trial or a refund, and a paid two-week pilot with a writer costs less than one month of a retainer.

See what an interview-based writer produces before you pay for a retainer

If you have the point of view and not the hours, the fastest way to settle this is two weeks of real posts. EchoPulse runs a 14-day Pilot for $299: a recorded interview, posts written in your voice, 48-hour turnaround, and nothing to cancel if it is not for you. Book a call from the founders page and bring the tool drafts you already have. If the tool is enough for you, we will say so on the call.
