LinkedIn Image and Video Specs 2026: Official Numbers
Every LinkedIn video, image, carousel and profile spec, read from linkedin.com/help on 7 September 2026, with the places LinkedIn contradicts itself flagged.

For a LinkedIn feed video, the official limits are 5 GB, 15 minutes, 256x144 to 4096x2304 pixels, and any aspect ratio between 1:2.4 and 2.4:1. For a feed image it is 5 MB, at least 552 pixels wide, with a ratio anywhere from 3:1 to 4:5. A document post is 100 MB and 300 pages. A profile photo is 400x400 to 7680x4320 at 8 MB, and a profile cover is 1584x396. Every one of those numbers was read from a linkedin.com/help page on 7 September 2026, and each is linked below.
That matters because the top results for this query are tool blogs that copy each other, and several numbers they repeat are not on LinkedIn's pages at all. It also matters because LinkedIn's help centre disagrees with itself in three places. This page flags each conflict so you can pick the safe side.
Method: eleven LinkedIn Help pages, opened and read on 7 September 2026, each linked where its figures appear. Nothing is taken from a third-party guide, and anything LinkedIn does not publish is marked as a convention.
What are the LinkedIn video specs for a feed post?
The video sharing troubleshooting page is the one that governs a normal post from a personal profile. These are its figures, verbatim.
Feed video, official (read 7 September 2026)
- Maximum file size: 5 GB
- Minimum file size: 75 KB
- Maximum duration: 15 minutes
- Minimum duration: 3 seconds from desktop, 2 seconds from the mobile app
- Resolution range: 256x144 to 4096x2304 pixels
- Aspect ratio: 1:2.4 to 2.4:1, which comfortably covers 9:16, 4:5, 1:1 and 16:9
- Frame rate: 10 to 60 fps
- Bit rate: 192 Kbps to 30 Mbps
- Containers listed as supported on desktop, iOS and Android: MP4, MOV, AVI, WEBM, MKV, WMV, VC1, MPEG, MPEG2, MPEG1VIDEO, DVVIDEO, QTRLE, TSCC2
- ProRes: the page says it may upload but will not process
Two things contradict most 2026 guides: the cap here is 15 minutes, not 10, and MOV is listed as supported. Both third-party claims come from a different official page, covered next.
Why do LinkedIn's own pages give three different video limits?
Because three teams wrote three pages and nobody reconciled them.
Maximum duration
- Feed video page: 15 minutes
- LinkedIn Pages and Career Pages video page: 10 minutes
- Video ads page: 3 seconds to 30 minutes, with 15 to 30 seconds recommended
Supported containers
- Feed video page: MOV and AVI listed as supported on desktop, iOS and Android
- Pages video page: "We no longer support AVI, QuickTime, or MOV files"
- Video ads page: MP4 only
Minimum resolution
- Feed video page and Pages video page: 256x144
- Video ads page: 640x360 for 16:9, 360x360 for 1:1, 360x450 for 4:5, 360x640 for 9:16
The Pages video page covers the video on a Page's Life or What We Do tab, so its rules may not apply to feed posts. It is still the page most tool blogs quote, presented as the feed rule. The safe reading is the tightest figure on every line: MP4, H.264, under 10 minutes, at least 640x360. A file that meets the ads page uploads anywhere.
What are the LinkedIn image specs for a feed post?
The share photos page is unusually specific about how multi-image posts lay out, which no third-party guide reproduces in full.
Single image, official
- File size: 5 MB
- Minimum: 552x276 pixels. LinkedIn recommends 1080 pixels wide
- Aspect ratio: 3:1 (wide) to 4:5 (tall). Taller images are centred and cropped to 4:5
- Cannot be resized or edited after posting
- A post can carry a link preview or an image, not both. Add a URL and the image is dropped
Multi-image post, official
- Up to 20 images
- The container renders at a maximum ratio of 4:5
- The first image sets the layout. Landscape or shorter than 4:3: it sits on top, the rest below. Portrait, square or taller than 4:3: it takes the left column, the rest stack right
- Second row height follows the shortest image in it, widths are divided equally, so mixed ratios get cropped
For control, make the first image 4:5 at 1080x1350 and every other image the same size. Mixed ratios hand the layout to LinkedIn.
Alt text
The alt text page shows desktop and mobile tabs and says LinkedIn may auto-assign alt text to images without it, with a notice on desktop only. It states no character limit. The 300 character, desktop-only claim in older guides is not on the current page, so treat it as unverified.
What are the LinkedIn carousel (document post) specs?
A carousel in 2026 is a document post, and the document page gives file rules and no pixel dimensions at all.
Document post, official
- File size: 100 MB maximum
- Pages: 300 maximum
- File types: PPT, PPTX, DOC, DOCX, PDF
- Viewers can download it as a PDF. That is not optional
- You can edit the description or delete the post, but you cannot replace the document once posted
Document post, convention (not on any LinkedIn page)
- 1080x1350 (4:5) per page, inferred from the 4:5 cap on feed images. Square 1080x1080 also renders cleanly
- Under 10 to 12 pages. LinkedIn publishes no recommendation on the document page
- Flatten the PDF and outline or embed fonts. Unembedded fonts substitute on render
What size should a LinkedIn profile photo and cover image be?
Personal profile, official
- Profile photo: between 400x400 and 7680x4320 pixels, 8 MB maximum, PNG or JPG. GIFs are not supported
- Cover image: 1584x396 recommended, under 8 MB, JPG or PNG
Company Page, official
- Logo: 268x268 minimum, 400x400 recommended
- Page cover image: 1512x256, listed as both minimum and recommended
- All Page images: PNG or JPEG, 3 MB maximum
- Link preview image on a Page post: 1.91:1 at 1200x627, and more than 200 pixels wide or it renders as a left thumbnail
The Page cover is the figure most guides get wrong. 4200x700 and 1128x191 are repeated across 2026 cheat sheets. The official page today says 1512x256. Keep anything important away from the lower right corner, which the page says is cropped first.
What changes if you sponsor the post as an ad?
Ad specs are tighter on almost every line. If a post might ever be boosted, export to the ad spec from the start.
Video ads, official
- File: MP4 only, 75 KB to 500 MB, H.264 or VP8, AAC or MPEG4 audioVideo ads
- Length: 3 seconds to 30 minutes. LinkedIn recommends 15 to 30 seconds so the ad qualifies for every placement
- Frame rate: the page says "less than 30 FPS", which in practice means export at 30 or below
- Recommended sizes: 1920x1080 (16:9), 1200x1200 or up to 1920x1920 (1:1), 720x900 (4:5, the recommended ratio), 720x1280 (9:16)
- Captions: SRT file, plain text only, no styling
- Videos under 30 seconds loop until 30 seconds of playback. A 10 second ad plays three times
- Desktop upload only, 25 videos per 24 hours, no Apple ProRes
Single image ads, official
- File: JPG, PNG or GIF (250 frames or fewer), 5 MBSingle image ads
- Recommended: 1200x628 (1.91:1), 1200x1200 (1:1), 720x900 (4:5)
- Vertical assets serve on mobile only
- A 1:1.91 tall image gets borders added on both sides. Use 4:5 to avoid them
- Introductory text truncates at 150 characters (3,000 maximum). Headline truncates at 70
What should you actually export for LinkedIn in 2026?
Take the tightest official figure on every line and one preset clears feed, Page and ad without re-rendering.
One preset that clears every LinkedIn page
- Container and codec: MP4, H.264, AAC audio at 48 kHz
- Talking head or clip: 1080x1350 at 4:5, the ratio LinkedIn recommends for both video and image ads
- Full vertical: 1080x1920 at 9:16, inside the 1:2.4 feed limit and the ads range
- Frame rate: 30 fps. Length: under 10 minutes organic, under 30 seconds if it will ever run as an ad
- Bit rate: 8 to 12 Mbps at 1080p, well inside the 30 Mbps ceiling
- Captions: burned in for organic, plain SRT alongside for ads
- Stills: 1080x1350 PNG under 5 MB, or 1200x627 for a link share
The export settings post covers the encoder flags behind that preset. The safe zones post measures where the interface covers a vertical video, which the feed video page mentions but does not quantify.
Frequently asked questions
Can you upload a MOV file to LinkedIn?
For a feed post, yes. The feed video page lists MOV as supported on desktop, iOS and Android as of 7 September 2026. The Pages video page says MOV is no longer supported, and ads take MP4 only. Export MP4 with H.264 and every page accepts it.
How long can a LinkedIn video be?
15 minutes for a feed post according to the feed video page, 10 minutes according to the Pages video page, and 30 minutes for a video ad. Those are all official and they do not agree. Stay under 10 minutes and all three pages are satisfied.
What is the best image size for a LinkedIn post?
1080x1350 at 4:5. It is the tallest ratio LinkedIn allows before cropping, the ratio the ads page recommends, and it controls a multi-image layout when used first. Use 1200x627 only for a link share.
What is the LinkedIn post character limit?
3,000 characters, stated on the post and share updates page. Past that, LinkedIn tells you to write an article. The "see more" cut is not documented anywhere on linkedin.com, so the 140 or 210 character figures in circulation are third-party measurements. Write the first line as if the cut lands at 140.
Does LinkedIn publish a carousel size?
No. The document page gives a 100 MB and 300 page limit and five file types, and nothing about pixels. 1080x1350 per page is a convention inferred from the feed image cap, not a LinkedIn rule.
Key takeaways
- Feed video: 5 GB, 15 minutes, 256x144 to 4096x2304, ratio 1:2.4 to 2.4:1, 10 to 60 fps, per LinkedIn's feed video page on 7 September 2026
- Three official pages give three different duration caps (15, 10 and 30 minutes) and disagree on MOV. Export MP4 under 10 minutes and you clear all of them
- Feed image: 5 MB, 552x276 minimum, 1080 wide recommended, ratio 3:1 to 4:5, up to 20 images, and a link preview cannot share a post with an image
- Documents: 100 MB, 300 pages, PPT, PPTX, DOC, DOCX or PDF, always downloadable, never editable after posting. No official pixel size exists
- Profile photo 400x400 to 7680x4320 at 8 MB. Profile cover 1584x396. Company Page cover 1512x256, not the 4200x700 most guides repeat
- Ads are tighter: MP4 only, 500 MB, 4:5 recommended, vertical serves on mobile only, SRT captions in plain text
